QUESTION:
"Couldn’t God have prevented Satan from falling?"
So, take time to examine yourself, and whatever form of pride the Lord reveals in your life, keep handing it over to Him.
ANSWER:
Lucifer became so proud of his beauty, intellect, and attainment that he failed to recognize everything he had was from God. Instead of recognizing the unbridgeable gulf between Creator and creation, he desired to unseat God and take His place (see Isaiah 14:12-14). Did God know from the very beginning that pride would captivate Lucifer’s heart? Absolutely. God is omniscient, which means He knows everything ahead of time. So then, could God have prevented Satan from falling? Again, yes, God is omnipotent—He can do anything.
So, if God knew and could have prevented it, why didn’t He? In our flesh, we think God could have saved us a whole lot of heartache. There would have been no history of human sin, no fall in the Garden of Eden, no need for redemption. But remember this: God gave us free will, just as He did to Lucifer. Otherwise, He would have created robots rather than beings capable of love.
Satan’s sin of pride echoes in every human heart, threatening to keep us from living a life rooted in the God who is love. Pride has the power to destroy your judgment and make you covet what you have no right to. Pride will alienate you from God. So, take time to examine yourself, and whatever form of pride the Lord reveals in your life, keep handing it over to Him. May we not think more highly of ourselves than we ought (see Romans 12:3).
