QUESTION:

"I understand the power of Christ's resurrection to atone for my sin and secure me eternal salvation. But how does the resurrection impact me right now?"

Because Christ died on the cross, He made sin defeatable, overcome-able, and destroyable.

ANSWER:

Christ's victory on the cross not only secured our salvation but also provided the means for our adoption to sonship. This adoption blesses us with a divine calling that begins here and now and carries on into eternity: to live for God, seeking first His Kingdom and His righteousness.

Peter calls us to imitate our Savior in this purpose, saying, "Therefore, . . . arm yourselves also with the same attitude" (1 Peter 4:1). For, the life lived for God and His will, purposes, and glory is a life that is mentally prepared to face whatever comes and spiritually empowered to resist temptation.

Because Christ died on the cross, He made sin defeatable, overcome-able, and destroyable. When your purpose in life is to honor and please the Lord, you will find it easier to resist the old way of life and keep putting on the new self (see Ephesians 4:20-24). This theme is repeated throughout Scripture, just as the psalmist expressed, "One thing I ask from the Lord, this only do I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze on the beauty of the Lord and to seek him in his temple" (Psalm 27:4, emphasis added). May you also know the power and joy of pursuing the only one worthy today and forever.
