NEW FROM DR. MICHAEL YOUSSEF

QUESTION:

What is the most important thing a new believer can do to grow in the grace of God?

There must be warm friendship as well as nurturing and teaching.

ANSWER:

A new believer in Christ is like a baby in the spiritual sense. You don't take a baby and put him on the street to fend for himself. Instead, you take the baby into your home and nourish and nurture him. In the same way, the local church has been designed by God to take in new believers, nurturing and nourishing them in God's ways.

Within the church or Christian fellowship, there must be warm friendship as well as nurturing and teaching. Day by day, the new believer must be steadily fed a strong diet of God's Word. He or she must learn from fellow Christians to feed upon the Word of God. In this way, he or she will learn to understand it and become more like Christ.

Eventually, he or she will learn to disciple others in the same way. This is God's process of sanctification, and it is a journey that we all must submit ourselves to—whether we have been a believer for months or decades. For we can always become more like Christ.
