QUESTION:

"Does Satan really exist? Is he really working to harm me?"

"The Scriptures do not portray Satan as anything other than a real and literal spiritual adversary and destroyer."

ANSWER:

Too many have fallen under the spell of the spirit of this age, choosing to believe Satan is nothing but a metaphor or a symbol, but tragically they are violating both the spirit and the letter of God's Word. The Scriptures do not portray Satan as anything other than a real and literal spiritual adversary and destroyer.

The average Christian is ignorant of the real enemy and how to fight him— oblivious to the invisible war that is taking place right now. Consequently, Satan is even using believers to destroy God's work in the world, doing all he can to replicate his sin of pride in our hearts. You see, pride distorts our judgment, makes us covet things we have no right to, and alienates us from God. So we mustn't think of ourselves more highly than we ought (see Romans 12:3)—for to do so is to think as the enemy thinks.

As you learn about the enemy, examine yourself for traces of pride—pride of knowledge, pride of achievement, pride of position, pride of possession, even pride in your cleverness at thwarting Satan. Then look to Christ, your Savior, humble in heart. His awesome love will bring you joyfully and willingly to your knees so that He will increase and you will decrease, as is right and good (see John 3:30).
