In this season, when passions are on parade and we feel the pressure of all those vying for our vote, it is high time we turn to the one who truly holds our nation in His hands. Let’s spend some time pleading with the Lord for our nation. And let’s ask Him to start with us before we step up to the ballot box.
It is high time we turn to the one who truly holds our nation in His hands.
1. Pray for Repentance:
"Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin condemns any people." – Proverbs 14:34
Lord, we are an undeserving people, but we humbly repent and ask You to lead this nation. Forgive us for the culture we have created and lead us back to virtue and Truth. Show me how You would have me serve in pursuit of godliness. Help me to be a faithful witness, sharing the Gospel with those around me.
2. Pray for Humility:
"Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God." – Romans 13:1
Father, may I not become puffed up in my political stance. You alone are all-knowing, all-wise, and all-loving; Your will is perfect. Thank You that regardless of cultural circumstances, my victory is sure in Christ. Help me to walk in humility and grace toward others, trusting that You are in control.
3. Pray for Wisdom:
"I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people—for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness." – 1 Timothy 2:1-2
God, You are the searcher of hearts. My knowledge is limited. You know whom You would have lead this nation for this time to bring about Your purposes. I only ask that my vote might honor You as I seek what my finite mind reasons is the best option for this nation. Lord, Your will be done.
4. Pray for Peace:
"Remind the people . . . to be ready to do whatever is good, to slander no one, to be peaceable and considerate, and always to be gentle toward everyone." – Titus 3:1-2
God, I ask that Your Spirit would work in the hearts of the people of this nation. Help us work toward a deeper, more lasting peace—peace with You and with one another. When I disagree with others, give me the strength to be respectful. May justice and righteousness be the pursuit of this nation. Grant our leaders wisdom, honesty, and humility. I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.
